I" simply fell in love with the whole process, I received such a positive response from people that knew me which I guess kept me going. It helps me grow as a person, it helps me share my struggles without feeling alone and most importantly I just love it."
No one understands how bloody excited I am to share this blog post with you, like the only way to describe how I feel is to tell you honestly I can't stop jumping up and down with joy! - Like the photo above, but hey we'll pretend we got the perfect shot in attempt 1... instead of bloody 50! (I honestly worked up a sweat getting that photo for this, haa)
Wait, no actually that's not true because in all honesty I have been driving my family and boyfriend up the wall! I can't stop myself from talking about it. But now finally I can share my news with you and that means I get to talk about it even more.
On the 25th May 2017 Diane Ruff from littleladyinthebigworld.com/ nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award 2017 -Yes I did just say that, I know you're probably just as shocked as I am! But OMG just knowing another blogger has not only seen my blogs, but she's also chosen to nominate me is absolutely mind blowing, I'm so thankful as I know you're only aloud to nominate 15 bloggers. Of course head over to Diane's blog and give her some love too, because I personally love to read her content.
Anyway I must stop myself from getting carried away with excitement, as I do have to share with you the rules:
Okay, so obviously this is one hell of a big deal to me because it's my first ever nomination for my blog and to tell you the truth this means the absolute world to me. I mean the chances of me wining are quite slim, considering I'm currently just a small blogger, but just to be considered is a massive mile stone and tells me I'm doing something right in this industry so I'll continue to be thrilled and stay a little hopeful!
How my blog started
I started my blog on the 20th March 2016, I had always read blogs myself and blogging was something I always wished I'd do, I was so in love with what others where writing content about but I simply never dared to actually go out and create my own blog. One day I was searching Google for cheap platforms that I could potentially use to get started, which was when I stumbled across Weebly. From here I created thatbridgegirl and my first ever blog post was about me leaving my parents home to move into my first ever home with my boyfriend. (It's safe to say since that post I have personally learnt a lot about my writing style and the things I want to write about)
I choose to call myself "thatbridgegirl" because I personally wanted a strong meaning to my blogs name - let's face it with a name as common as Amy Thompson I knew I'd have to be a little creative here! It simply means "thatcambridgegirl" because Cambridge is my home town and I wanted to incorporate that into my blog. Also just in case you aren't aware people refer to Cambridge as Bridge for short. The name just felt right as I'd taken my time with mind maps to figure out what I wanted and this stood out to me, was just a plus that it was available.
I knew I wanted to write about a fair few topics from the beginning so I didn't want to chose a name that would limit me. I followed so many blogs but hadn't found one I could personally connect to, I craved to read about more personal things, inspirational posts and raw posts that talked about life's struggles or advice for others and I felt this is something I could offer. So I knew the only way was to simply start out and work out if it was the right thing for me to do, work out if I would be able to share personal things and I wanted to bing something a little different by being connectible, honest and relatable to others out there.
Since I started blogging I haven't looked back since and I know it was the best decision I'd taken, I simply fell in love with the whole process, I received such a positive response from people that knew me which I guess kept me going. It helps me grow as a person, it helps me share my struggles without feeling alone and most importantly I just love it. I've always been passionate about writing, I used to dream of being a writer when I was a child and I'd always be writing stories since I can remember at school or even just little letter to my parents.
My advice to new bloggers
If like me your in the phase of knowing you want to blog but fear is holding you back, the best thing I can say to you is just to find a platform you like and start writing to see how it goes. There will never be a perfect time, the only way you'll work out if blogging is for you is to simply start and see how feel about it At the end of the day it's one of these things that you have to DO in order to achieve what you may want. Do some research into what you think you'd like to post, your writing style but you don't need to learn everything, honestly you learn more along the way and improvements can always be made so there is absolutely no need to worry. There are also loads of Facebook groups you can join that offer tons of support or ideas if you get stuck, this industry is usually very supportive of others and that's the best thing.
When you start out, you need to be you, write like you, share you and don't try to be like anyone else because you won't be able to hold up writing like someone else etc and it simply won't work out if you're not being authentic and true to who you are. Don't focus on numbers or what people will think of you because although it's important it's not the be all or end all, focusing on these things in the beginning could potentially burn out your fire and discourage you from being persistent. Blog because you love it, you have a passion for it and you feel you have value that you can share, believe in yourself always and you need to realise it takes a lot of patience.
Don't start a blog just because you want to work with brands, receive free things or for money because the people you may be looking up to who are achieving these things have probably taken years to get to this point. If you can love blogging for free, for you and because you love it then do it. Be consistent, keep publishing and just keep going, I personally would still post blogs even if I lost all of my followers, readers etc just because I simply love it. Don't look at everyone else around you as competition, instead see them as your family, inspiration, support the others around you, come together and unite because if you're bashing others in order to get to your place it won't work. You need an organic audience that you have grown yourself and definitely don't buy your way into the industry, because you'll stand out like a sore thumb.
